Hi, I’m Amber, I like big reveals, little surprises and the color yellow. I was raised on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, La’ie Point, Oahu, Hawaii. The child of an elementary school librarian and a fine-artist, I like to think I was pre-destined to carry picture books into adulthood.

In the second grade, after a particularly rough day of fractions, I wrote to Walt Disney Studios asking how to be a “grown-up artist for kids.” They wrote me a long letter telling me that when I grew up I should go to Pratt Institute for college and in the meantime, I should draw as many horses as I could.

I graduated with my BFA from Pratt Institute in Film before going on to work as an artist for animation, video games, children’s fashion and theme parks. I still draw horses.

My first illustrated picture book, WILD ABOUT DADS, written by Diana Murray comes out Spring 2020 with Macmillan IMPRINT. You can preorder now it from your local indie!

I keep photos of myself between the ages of 3-9 in my studio to remind me who I’m writing for.
